Joseph C. Schroeder

Joseph (Joe) C. Schroeder graduated from Ottawa-Glandorf High School in 1984. In 1988 he graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Bowling Green State University. Joe received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in May of 1991 and was licensed to practice law on November 18, 1991.  In his early years as an attorney, Joe practiced law in Cleveland, OH.  In 1998 Joe, along with his family, moved back to Ottawa to join his families’ law firm.

Joe’s practice is focused almost exclusively on estate planning, estate administration, and Elder Law.  His estate planning practice includes a heavy concentration in the area of trusts, Medicaid planning, and farm succession planning.  The estate administration practice includes probate administrations, trust administrations, and non-probate transfer issues.  Joe has assisted numerous out-of-state attorneys with their Ohio ancillary administrations.

Joe is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and he has served several years as a committee member on the Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Committee. Joe has twice been nominated and elected by his peers to serve on the OSBA Council of Delegates. He has served on several committees within the Ohio State Bar Association, including the committee responsible for drafting the legislation which created the Ohio Legacy Trust.  Joe served for 10 years on the Northwest Ohio Grievance Committee.  Joe has been published in the prestigious Probate Law Journal of Ohio, including the articles: The CAUV Election: A Fourth Bite at the Estate Tax Apple; and Zimmerman vs. Zirpolo Trust, 2012-Ohio-346.  Assessing and Addressing the Issue of Trustee Conflicts of Interest – A Practitioners Point of View.  He is also a member of ElderCounsel, which is a Nation-wide organization consisting of thousands of attorneys who primarily focus practice on estate planning, Medicaid planning, and Elder Law. He is a member of the Putnam County Bar Association and has served as its past president and vice-president.

On January 1, 2001, Joe, along with his father Clyde A. Schroeder and his partner Anna Mae Blankemeyer, helped co-found and is a partner in Schroeder, Blankemeyer and Schroeder LLP, located in Ottawa, Ohio.  The origin of Schroeder, Blankemeyer and Schroeder LLP goes back to 1954 when Joe’s uncle, George E. Schroeder, began practicing law in Ottawa.  Joe is the son of Clyde and Joan Schroeder.  He is an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Joe has been married to his wife, Kim, for almost a 25 years.  Together they have been blessed with two sons and two daughters.
